Miracle Knots have been trending all over social media, and many clients are curious about whether the style is actually worth it. After installing Miracle Knots for two clients, I wanted to break down the real cost, install time, and whether this style makes sense for both clients and stylists.

Last month I posted on our update page that I’m looking to do Miracle Knots. At the time I was looking for 2 clients to do the service so that I could figure out accurate pricing and timing to put on the booking page. But after having done the service twice, I’m still not sure how or if I should do either! And here’s why: the cost of the hair and the time it takes to install.
Miracle knots have taken the internet by storm! What are Miracle Knots? Why are they so popular? Are Miracle Knots worth it? Let’s talk about it!
Without further ado, let's get into it!
So I had the pleasure of providing this service to two beautiful young ladies. Like all crochet services, the client is responsible for providing the hair. I don’t provide crochet hair because there are way too many options such as curl types, lengths, textures, etc., and it can be a bit pricey!
However, when it comes to human hair crochet, “pricey” can be a bit of an understatement.
And if I don’t provide the hair then how would I know this, you might ask? Well, let’s get into that!
Like I said previously, for crochet I do not provide the hair. For threaded human hair, until recently you couldn’t find it in stores. But thanks to Miracle Knots, that has changed.
I went online because I was interested in the style myself, and I was surprised to see that the hair is quite expensive. It’s priced per 50 strands in most cases! So being honest, it kind of turned me off.
But — and that’s a big but — the big upside to the price of the hair is that it is truly reusable, incredibly easy to install, and in my opinion, when done right it is by far the healthiest option for the hair as far as extensions go (no matter if it’s installed the traditional way or as Miracle Knots).
The price varies from brand to brand, but most companies sell them in quantities of 50 strands per pack.
For the first client I did the installation on, we used about 3 bundles and about 2–3 strands from a fourth bundle, so that’s about 152–153 strands total.
Each bundle contained 50 strands.
This client ordered her hair from YWigs, and she ordered quite a bit! Her hair when in box braids is about 2 inches past her ears. We used about 3 strands per braid, and one at the end. Toward the top we used 4 or 5 per braid with one at the bottom, so around 5 to 6 total per braid.
The second client’s hair, when braided, was shoulder length.
Her hair we purchased from the hair store was quite expensive (I know because I went to purchase it for her). We used exactly 200 strands. Each pack was $80 for 50 strands.
Now to be fair, the hair was colored. There were other brands that were cheaper, but they were all natural blacks. I’ve also found that ordering the hair online is the cheaper option, and the hair will probably be of better quality.
But the store-bought hair felt just as good as YWigs or my personal favorite brand, Eayon.
After having spent $300+ on hair, how much are you willing to pay to get it installed?
Personally, as a braider, I feel like $150 is reasonable on the low end, and that’s for shoulder-length hair.
But are you willing to pay $450 total for this style?
I do feel like it’s worth it considering the hair is reusable multiple times. Probably more than you would get from the same price of great quality wefted bundles, so it will pretty much pay for itself in the end.
Plus it is very lightweight, so it’s not heavy (which is healthier) on the hair, and it’s easy to install.
Which brings me to my next point: install time.
When I posted the style, I allotted myself 4 hours for installation, based on my personal experience doing box braids on natural hair and also based on reviews for this specific style online. And let me just say… it took longer than that. I would say around 5 hours, give or take. If the person's hair is longer, then it will take longer. And I don’t know if it's just something that I’ll get faster at with time, butttttt… I also braided a strand into the bottom of each braid like you would with boho braids, so if you’re not doing that it will save you at least an hour.
All in all, the price of the hair can be a bit steep, especially if you’re purchasing color or buying it in person. I called around and one store sold them for $100 per pack (50 strands). At the larger stores for natural blacks and browns, the price ranged from $40 to $80 per pack. Online, the prices differ.
One of the best selling points for me is that with proper care and maintenance the hair can last at least a year.
The installation timing will take anywhere from 5 to 6 hours depending on:
The length of your hair
The size of the boxes (I did medium)
How full you want your hair to be
One of the biggest decision-making points for me — and I think if you’re someone who loves boho styles this will matter to you too — is that it cuts down the time of boho knotless braids significantly.
And honestly, that alone is enough for me to say yes to this style.
So what do you think? Do you think it’s worth it?
As a stylist, if you’re not charging at least $150 for this style, then it’s not worth it to add to your services. And I just don’t see people wanting to pay that after purchasing the hair, even though it’s not a problem when it comes to sew-ins or wigs. Most people don’t respect braiders enough to want to pay what the service is worth. I didn’t say all, but most. So I’m not sure that I will add the style to my services. It’s still up in the air.
As of right now, I’ll leave it off the site, and if someone requests it then I’ll try to accommodate.
Right now Miracle Knots are not officially listed on the booking site yet.
However, If you're in the Orlando area and interested in trying Miracle Knots, feel free to reach out and request the style. While it isn’t officially listed on the booking site yet, I may still be able to accommodate depending on availabiliy.
